Lancha Village

This is the land of Buddhism, Monasteries, Moonlike landscape, hospitable people, nomads, valleys and above all the remote Himalayan Villages.
Langcha is one of these remote villages in Spiti region. This is located in Lingti valley, a sub valley of Spiti and is famous for its rare Medicinal Himalayan herbs. Till six years ago there was no road to this village and the locales had to walks for nearly ten kilometers to reach Kaza, the headquarter of Spiti.
People of Langcha never saw people from the world outside till 1992 when Indian government opened this area for Indians as well as foreigners. Now, every year, this place is visited by a number of people from all over the world. It falls on the trek route from Kaza to Damul and whenever someone passed through that village, till the time it was connected by road, locales would come to see him or her and sometime literally touch them. The people from outside were strangers for them and different too, so this was a matter of astonishment for them to see those people with different complexion, body structure, hair and their clothing style.
Langcha has a six hundred year old monastery that is located on a hilltop. An idol of meditating Buddha has been installed near the monastery. Cao Chao Peak, from its elevation of 6200 meter dominates the entire region.
