Lecture: Two Weeks in Louisiana at the Crealdé School of Art

Winter Park, Florida – A free lecture, entitled Two Weeks in Louisiana, will be given from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on July 16, 2010, by Rick Lang, Crealdé School of Art’s Director of Photography and Documentary Photographer.  On this trip, funded in part by a United Arts’ Professional Development Grant, Rick traveled the back roads of Louisiana to photographically record aspects of the history and culture of the state. Rick will talk about his experiences exploring such places as Bugalusa, Monroe, Alexandria, and other small towns and cities throughout the state. The lecture will include a Power Point presentation of many of the images that he made on his travels.

Rick Lang is currently showing 20 prints of the Louisiana series on the 2nd Floor Gallery in Orlando’s City Hall.  He has been working on a series of photographs on the way signs are reflective of the history and culture of the Southern United States.  His work has been shown at the Baldwin Gallery, Middle Tennessee State University (2000), Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi, (2007) and the Florida Museum of Arts and Culture, (2008).

Rick Lang, age 55, was born in Santa Monica, California, but grew up in Winter Park, Florida. He has served on the faculty of Crealdé School of Art for the past 21 years and serves as the Director of Photography there.
