The 30th Annual New Ulm Oktoberfest will be held Friday and Saturday, September 30 & October 1, and October 7 & 8, in downtown New Ulm and at the Holiday Inn New Ulm. The festival features musical entertainment, including very own New Ulm's Concord Singers and bands from Germany! There will also be dancing, German goods for sale, plenty of food and drink, public tours of the August Schell's Brewery, John Lind Home, Wanda Gag House, Hermann Monument, and Minnesota Music Hall of Fame, and horse-drawn trolley rides through downtown and past historic homes each Saturday! Granite Falls will be the site of the 8th Annual Upper Minnesota Valley Art Meander Kickoff Event on Friday, September 30, with music, food, history and art on both sides of the Minnesota River joined by the historic footbridge. The annual Johnny Appleseed Festival will be held throughout Lake City on Saturday, October 1. Bancroft Bay Park in Albert Lea will be the site of the Big Island Rendezvous and Festival, Saturday and Sunday, October 1 & 2. The 28th Annual Halloween Warm-Up will be offered Friday and Saturday, October 7 & 8, at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center in Austin. Enjoy Halloween and nature skits performed by creatures, critters and spirits of the night. Take a 45-minute hike through the woods, then relax inside the Nature Center building with some cider and treats. Designed for children ages 4-11, accompanied by an adult, since it can be a little scary at times. McGowan's Farm in Mankato will present History Fest, Friday through Sunday, October 7-9, with a chance to "experience" what it was like in days gone by. Enjoy re-enactors of 17th century Scotland and the Old West to belly dancers and fire-eaters, and try your hand at launching a catapult, cider making, cannon shooting, and much more. Apple orchards in the Hastings vicinity will offer Apple Fest 2011 each Saturday and Sunday, October 1-16. The North Shore Scenic Railroad in Duluth will run Fall Colors Steam Train Tours along the North Shore of Lake Superior each Friday, Saturday and Sunday through October 16. Anderson's Rock Creek Relics Corn Maze Tours will be offered at the Duane Anderson Farm in Rush City through Sunday, October 16.
