Eat Like a New Yorker - Go Green & Bohemian

by Ariane Marder - Voyage.tv Video Editor

Farm to Table
Nestled on a street that dates to the days when Greenwich Village was still a rural hamlet, the restaurant Mas is delightfully reminiscent of a bygone era. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed with recovered oak boards, stone details, leather banquettes, handstitched pillows, and white linen tablecloths call to mind a French country home and welcome guests with familial warmth. Mas’ owner and James Beard Award-winning chef Galen Zamarra bases the restaurant’s cuisine on one of his unwavering beliefs: Eat local, eat in season, and you'll end up eating some of the best meals of your life.

Zamarra lets Mother Nature determine the menu items, selecting only the best ingredients from local greenmarkets. Seasonal produce, local meat, fresh fish, artisanal cheese and regional dairy products are the pillars of each dish. The cuisine is defined as New American with French influence, and the menu changes daily to ensure that every component is of the highest quality.
