Kids invited to get hands-on with art at Pewabic Family Fun Day Aug. 24

Annual event offers free, low-cost activities for kids of all ages

Pewabic Pottery invites children and families to embark on an artistic adventure during 3rd annual Family Fun Day Tuesday, Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Free activities include carnival-style art games such as clay target practice, a ceramic fishing game and the building of a clay community.

For $5, children can make their own masterpieces at several creation stations including jewelry-making with clay beads, decorating clay masks, creating whirly wind chimes and painting flower pots.

Visitors also will be able to observe Pewabic artists demonstrating the magic of clay wheel throwing and outdoor Raku firing. In addition, free tours of the National Historic Landmark will begin at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

No registration is required for Family Fun Day, however, groups of 10 or more are asked to call (313) 822-0954, ext. 100 in advance. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Pewabic Pottery is a non-profit arts and cultural organization and National Historic Landmark which is dedicated to engaging people of all ages in learning experiences with contemporary ceramic art and artists while preserving its historic legacy.

Pewabic Pottery is open to the public year round and offers classes, workshops, lectures and tours to children and adults. Pewabic continues to create tile for architectural and offers galleries that showcase more than 70 ceramic artists and a museum store for purchasing handmade items.
