FREAK Circus is a bold new concept in literary magazines from the successful team who brought you the immensely popular Poetry Circus performance poetry nights and slams at the Dalraida Bar, Portobello.

Head-and-shoulders above a run-of-the-mill 'zine' and colonising new territories far beyond the scope of the ubiquitous poetry pamphlet, FREAK Circus will be published, not as the customary on-line PDF download, but as a high quality perfect-bound paperback book-a-zine with the written quality of Granta and a stunning visual layout more commonly associated with the likes of Creative Review. Plus, it will be freely available worldwide through the might of Amazon, and will never go out of print or only be found in obscure outlets and craft fairs.

Freak Circus

Edited by fresh young poet and copy-writer, Emily Elver, and designed by veteran multi-award-winning illustrator and layout artist, Max Scratchmann, this dynamite team promise you a new concept in literature that will electrify all your senses, and we'll be featuring innovative content from both established writers and new voices alike.

However, as this a completely independent and, therefore, unfunded project, FREAK Circus still needs a small amount of money to produce the first (ink and paper) print run and there's a Kickstarter campaign currently running to put the necessary finance together  at:

So, anyone looking to read cutting-edge new writers, or maybe even see a stylish platform for their own poetry or short stories, can help out and pledge a little something towards getting this exciting new project off the ground. You can give as little as one pound, or, for the price of a couple of pints, get a signed first edition and also have your name immortalised in our hall of fame.  Plus there's sponsorship opportunities for business too.

FREAK Circus will launch at a bumper performance night at the Dalriada bar (77 Promenade, Portobello) on October 1st and will be on sale right through the Portobello Book Festival, followed up by an astounding city centre showcase night at the Bongo Club on 6th November* and then at events in the city throughout the year, PLUS it will always be in print on Amazon, so it will be available globally for all time.
