We've got a very special podcast for you today - an interview with Martin Lumbye, of Momondo.com. Martin - and Momondo - hail from Copenhagen, Denmark. It's a clean, crisp site - well-laid out and very easy to use.
Momondo is a fantastic resource for all things travel. It's a search engine (although they don't sell them - you'll click through directly to
the best deals you find) for flights, rail, hotel, and car rental, and (my favorite), has a series of user-contributed City Guides. BEST
OF ALL? Momondo is FREE. Their very fast technology searches all the major sites (over 800 travel sites!), so you don't have to. It's my favorite
site for travel, especially travel outside the US, since they incorporate most airlines around the world. Consistently in searches, Momondo finds the
lowest prices. I am Impressed!
Momondo City Guides span the globe - from small cities to the largest, most glittery. The City Guides are contributed by readers - so you KNOW
that they are good! I love to contribute (you can win monthly prizes, for contributing), but moreso, I love to share our own favorite places with other
travelers. The cities are mapped well, and you can easily pinpoint the recommendations you like (and then go there).
Momondo was launched in 2006 and in three years has grown to become one of Denmark’s top websites across all categories, not just travel. Momondo has
been recommended by The New York Times, CNN, CBS News, the Los Angeles Times, and the Daily Telegraph. Most recently, U.S. travel authority,
Arthur Frommer and some of the world's leading travel media, Sherman's Travel, Travel and Leisure, and SmarterTravel.com recommended
Momondo.com as THE site in which to find airfare / hotel / car, when you want to travel. Momondo has received the 2010 Danish e-commerce prize
within the travel and tourism category and Norway's largest newspaper, World Gang (VG), and the Norwegian Consumer Council independently elected Momondo
as the best player in the electronic travel reservation marketplace. In addition, as of April 6, 2010, Momondo established a partnership with Swedish TV4 and
Expressen, Sweden’s second largest newspaper.
Momondo.com is a great source for finding the best hotel, flight, and car deals, because Momondo offers “true price transparency before you actually
purchase your hotel room, and all search engine results are compiled into one search in one screen; so you don’t have to check multiple windows,” says
Lumbye.
Comparison results will appear from the different search-engines scanned, with the lowest price in green and higher prices in orange - ALL ON ONE SCREEN (no
more multiple pop-up windows). You can then click on the link and log into that result on the offer’s site for further details and actual booking. We've used
it for travel planning with our upcoming trip to Ireland and Scotland.
We asked Lumbye, Why Momondo?
Momondo is a cutting edge web 2.0 travelsite with the best flight search engine on the world wide web.
We search across multiple websites at google style top-speed to within seconds give you an overview of the cheapest flights we can find.
No other flight search engine searches as many websites as Momondo and our network is constantly expanding.
Momondo is clean, friendly, and finds the best deals. I've replaced all my other travel search sites with this one - we highly recommend it to our
Wandering Educators.
