Engaging Your Campus and the World through International Service-Learning

Call for Proposals

Please consider submitting a proposal for the 2008 International Conference on Service-Learning held October 2-3, 2008 at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.


Utah Valley University and the International Partnership for Service-Learning are hosting an International Service-Learning Conference for campus teams and individuals involved in or interested in international service-learning. Participants will engage in a variety of workshops, panel discussions, poster presentations, plenary sessions, and other activities that will help campus teams and individuals learn about best practices in international service-learning. Additionally, participants will have an opportunity to develop a campus plan for international service-learning programs and academic courses. This conference may be beneficial for study abroad departments, service-learning faculty, international centers, volunteer and service-learning departments, and other organizations interested in service-learning at an international level.

We are seeking all types of proposals. Potential topics may include but are not limited to:
* Best practice principles and guidelines for implementing international service-learning.
* Risk management issues in international service-learning.
* Conceptual and theoretical frameworks for developing and understanding international service-learning.
* Research on learning outcomes for students, as well as outcomes with international partnerships, faculty, and institutions.
* Assessment/evaluation tools and strategies.
* Best practice principles for developing international service-learning partnerships.

Important dates:
* All proposals are due July 1, 2008.
* Notifications will be sent out mid July 2008

Submission guidelines for concurrent session:
* The concurrent sessions will be 50 minutes long.
* Include in your submission
o Proposal title
o Name of presenters
o Contact information for presenters. Include address, phone number, and email address.
o Affiliated institution or organization
o 300 word abstract describing your proposal
o Indicate that the proposal is for a concurrent session.

Submission guidelines for poster session:
* During the course of the conference, we will be displaying posters that were submitted. We require that the presenters of posters be available during a specified time to answer questions.
* The specified poster session time will be 50 minutes.
