Save the Date and Call for Proposals:

The 2nd Annual Fostering Global Citizenship Conference will be held in Burlington, Vermont on November 10 - 11, 2008. This year's conference is sponsored by the University of Vermont and Vermont Campus Compact with co-sponsorship from SIT/World Learning and Middlebury College. The Fostering Global Citizenship in Higher Education conference is aimed at campus teams and individuals involved and interested in fostering global citizenship in higher education.

Day One of the conference to be held on November 10th at the Hampton Inn and Conference Center in Burlington/Colchester, VT will engage participants in a variety of interactive workshops, plenary sessions, facilitated working groups, and action planning sessions.  Anticipated outcomes for campus teams include:

v     Establishing a working definition of global citizenship for each campus;
v     Identifying the competencies that an individual should have to be considered a global citizen;
v     Identifying the key components necessary to properly teach, develop and prepare global citizens;
v     Developing strategies for cross-departmental collaboration.

Although individuals may attend, we strongly encourage registration by campus teams for the first day of the conference.  Each institution is asked to form a team including: study abroad/international education offices, service-learning/ community service offices, cross-cultural offices, student services, career services, academic affairs, faculty members, and any other interested parties.

Day two of the conference to be held on November 11th at the University of Vermont will provide two extended curriculum design workshops for faculty and staff engaged in designing or supporting the design of curriculum with a global focus.   The first will focus on teaching for global citizen outcomes on a local scale, and the second will focus on curriculum design for international community engagement.
