SAN FRANCISCO (September 30, 2010) Glimpse.org, a worldwide program powered by Matador and supported in part by National Geographic Society, has recently launched the application cycle for its Spring 2011 Correspondents Program. Glimpse is currently seeking talented writers and photographers who will be abroad in the fall for at least 10 weeks.

Each semester, Glimpse selects eight to 10 talented storytellers to become featured Glimpse contributors. Correspondents receive a $600 stipend, one-on-one editorial guidance, career training in writing and photography, and guaranteed publication at Glimpse.org.

The program encourages participants to actively engage with locals abroad and to seek out thought-provoking cultural experiences. Past Correspondents have gotten to know drag queens in Jordan, professional de-miners in Uganda, camel merchants in Egypt, and swimming pool wardens in Iceland, to name a few. Correspondents work closely with professional editors to chronicle and share these experiences.

"I was excited to have a motivation to get myself into interesting situations," says Benjamin Black, a Spring 2008 Writing Correspondent. David Kelbe, a Spring 2008 Photo Correspondent agrees. "Glimpse has given me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone," he says. "Some of the coolest things I've done so far in New Zealand have been on assignment for Glimpse."

The deadline for the Spring 2011 application is November 28, 2010. Learn more about the program and see what past Correspondents have produced here: http://glimpse.org/correspondents

ABOUT GLIMPSE
Glimpse is a worldwide program powered by Matador and supported in part by the National Geographic Society. Glimpse connects young writers, journalists, photographers, and filmmakers with professional editors who help them develop their storytelling voice and media skills. Glimpse believes that independent travelers, particularly those who spend significant time abroad, have a unique and often overlooked opportunity to effect positive change around the world. This begins with bearing witness to place, people, culture, and especially the stories and struggles that might otherwise go unrecorded. Our goal is to build a worldwide community of "Correspondents," travelers with strong creative visions for storytelling through words and images, and to provide them with a professional platform--including stipends, community support, and one-on-one editorial training--for publishing high-profile journalistic work based on their travels abroad.
