The University of Missouri at Columbia (MU, Mizzou) is an AAU, Research I
university, and serves as the state’s flagship campus. Participation in
education abroad programs has tripled in the past decade, with over 1100 MU
students studying overseas in 2007-08. In addition, Columbia, Missouri is

Responsibilities Include:
Program Management and Student Advising:
•Coordinates MU and MU Partner Programs in Australia, East Asia, and New
Zealand.
•Serves as primary advisor for educational opportunities in assigned regions.
•Primary liaison between MU and MU overseas contacts for MU direct
exchanges in these countries. Manages reciprocal exchange agreements,
tracks exchange balances, and ensures compliance with terms of exchange.
•Advises students, faculty, staff, and parents on MU opportunities for study
abroad and administrative polices and procedures.
•Coordinates admissions process and country-specific orientations for
assigned regions. Manages problems and special situations as needed.
•Coordinates re-entry program for all MU students returning from study abroad
programs, including annual photo contest. Maintains and posts messages to
returnee e-mail distribution list.
•Advises for select scholarships to fund study abroad (e.g., Gilman, Freeman
Asia).
•Liaison with the Office of Disability Services.
Resource Room Coordination:
•Supervises Study Abroad Assistant who provides front-line student advising.
•Oversees hiring, training, and on-going supervision of student Peer Advisors
and Volunteer Corps.
•Directs Study Abroad Assistant in managing study abroad administrative
cycle for the campus.
Study Abroad Administration and Fiscal Activities:
•Works with Office of the University Registrar and Cashiers Office to ensure
that all MU study abroad participants are accurately registered and billed.
•Supervises half-time Graduate Assistant who assists with these processes.
Coordination of Advising:
•Provides guidance and training on student advising for junior staff members.
•Holds weekly meetings on advising issues.
Study Abroad Program Leadership:
•Serves on the Study Abroad Core Emergency Response Team.
•Serves as acting Director of Study Abroad in Director’s absence.
Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in relevant field.
2. Four or more years of professional work experience in the field of education
abroad.
3. International experience through study or work abroad.
4. Demonstrated skills in written communication.
5. Evidence of strong organizational and administrative skills.
6. Experience working with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel,
PowerPoint, Publisher).
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Foreign language skills.
2. Experience supervising students or other employees
3. Demonstrated leadership in education abroad through NAFSA, CIEE, the
Forum on Education Abroad, or other international education association.
4. Experience using StudioAbroad.
