SUMMARY OF POSITION
IREX seeks a Country Director to manage and implement a State-Department funded media development project for Iraq. The Country Director has overall responsibility for meeting program objectives, and will be based full-time in Baghdad. The project supports four core areas: professionalism of journalism; management of media outlets; development of sound media laws; and associations and NGOs supporting independent media. The program supports all forms of media, including new media and citizen journalism.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Overall responsibility for meeting program objectives including general oversight and management of the program; providing strategic vision, fiscal integrity, quality and timing of deliverables; and, coordination with local and international partners.
• Manage donor relations.
• Develop and maintain effective partnerships with country-based staff and partners.
• Coordinate project activities with other programs supported by donors.
• Manage and mentor project staff.
• Oversee project budget and ensure budget discipline.
• Oversee monitoring, evaluation and reporting on program activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
• College degree in relevant field
• Minimum 10 years of direct management experience in media, media development, and in international environment.
• Experience in one or more of the core program areas.
• International experience required and experience in Iraq and Middle East strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a diverse team of employees.
• Experience working in conflict and post-conflict environments.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to function professionally and effectively in verbal and written English required; Arabic language skills preferred.
