Responsibilities: The Study Abroad Adviser recruits and advises students on
study abroad and exchange programs; assists with developing and maintaining
study programs abroad; assists with orientations; maintains necessary
records; and ensures compliance with university academic, financial and
safety standards. The position reports directly to the Assistant Vice
President for International Education; works closely with faculty,
departments and schools; and serves as part of a 6-person collaborative team
(including a second Study Abroad Adviser) in the International Education
Center that is strongly committed to building and supporting diversity of
faculty, staff and student body. The team manages international admissions,
coordinates services to international students, oversees study abroad,
coordinates faculty and student exchange, organizes international
programming on campus, and works with academic departments to
internationalize their majors. The university strongly encourages its
students to study abroad.
Qualifications: Required qualifications include a Bachelor s Degree,
knowledge and experience of study abroad. Preferred qualifications include a
Master s Degree in related field, two years experience in study abroad
office and/or overseas experience. Maturity, vision, strong organizational
and analytical skills, high motivation and energy, cross-cultural
sensitivity, excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer
literacy, the ability to solve problems, collaborative team spirit, good
sense of humor, and flexibility are essential.
