These days we can’t go more than four minutes on any social media platform without noticing someone sharing about doing life their own way. Any number of hashtags, from vanlife to roadschooling and living off the grid, pop up to intrigue viewers to follow the journey of those choosing to do their own thing. Perhaps we’re moving into a time of life where the non-traditional is becoming traditional, or perhaps, if that’s not the case, it’s the bubble in which my brain wants to live.

Every day, students show up to learn. Whether they’re five years old in a traditional classroom or fifteen in a home school setting - or anywhere in between - there's curiosity, intrigue, and interest somewhere inside them waiting to be entertained and engaged. Some show up craving the excitement of learning, while others are there without any excitement, unless that necessary hook can grab their attention. Long ago, one of my favorite quotes grabbed my attention and hasn’t let go since.

It was a nice summer day in Morzine, a small town in the French Alps about an hour east of Geneva. The trees were highlighted with morning sun, the stream below the house was roaring, and I was fast asleep.

I don’t remember much about getting up that day, but there is one thought that still goes through my mind every morning: Waking up is difficult. Especially when you start thinking about getting ready to seize the day, ugh… so much work.

A few seconds every day of 11 months of world travel

Eleven months ago, my family sold everything and left the US to travel the world, with no plan to return. Since then, we’ve visited ten countries on three continents, walked hundreds of kilometers through countrysides and cities alike, taken countless trains and planes, met amazing people, and made lifelong family memories.

A Family RV Adventure: The Kids Perspective

by Miranda Boyink / Nov 23, 2013 / 0 comments

After staying in Michigan for the summer, just moving one hour every other week or so, my family was ready to move on... until we heard that our very good friends, the Keiters, were heading our direction.
