Avoiding Boredom: Five best travel accessories for kids

by Joy Whitehead / Apr 13, 2013 / 0 comments

Nobody likes being bored. Nobody likes being bored on a trip either. In my family, there are seven people (five kids and two parents), and everyone does their best to prevent boredom while we're traveling, but this is no easy task, especially with limited space.

Luging in Rotorua

by Anders Bruihler / Apr 10, 2013 / 0 comments

I race down the concrete track, wind tearing by my face. Trees whiz by as I accelerate down the hill, gripping the handlebars tightly. A turn approaches from up ahead. I lean into it, and come out perfectly. I see a sign that says “Merge!” where another run joins into this one. Next I go through a tunnel, and several other signs warn “Slow Down!” The track narrows to a third of its old width, and I bounce off the wooden bumpers a couple times as I navigate the last bends.

Speedboat Snorkeling - Snorkeling Cancun Style

Snorkeling is something that’s never piqued my interest. If given the opportunity, you’re likely to hear me say ‘meh.’ I could live without it, as there are plenty of other things that I would be happier to do. This was why when on my latest vacation to Cancun, Mexico, when my two friends wanted to go and one friend didn’t, I nobly offered to stay behind with the lone friend.

Seven Things Teen Flyers Can’t Live Without

by Gabriel Miller / Apr 07, 2013 / 1 comments

Katherine is a good friend of mine, even though we have only met a few times. Whether they decide to use this info for their own good or not is up to them. Another reason is that we are experienced flyers, and both of us carry these things when we go flying.

Inquiry Learning in the Amazon – Why ask Why?

I started my teaching career as a traveling teacher - pushing my cart of science supplies from room to room. Boy has my definition of a traveling teacher changed! Now it means roaming the planet with a backpack, binoculars, and students.

Fox Glacier: An Adventure on Ice

by Anders Bruihler / Mar 23, 2013 / 0 comments

Fox Glacier, on the South Island of New Zealand, is one of the most accessible glaciers in the world. It ends in the middle of a lush rainforest, just 250 meters above sea level. It moves at up to ten times the speed of other glaciers.  And there are many glacier tours that let you walk on the ice of the glacier itself.

Like precious gems, sea glass is rare and beautiful. Sea glass has been found for as long as there has been glass. Legends tell that every time a sailor drowned at sea, the Mermaids would cry and their tears would wash ashore as sea glass.
