Summer break: A Mexican road trip

If you’re planning to make use of your spring or summer break, yet not blow the bank, Mexico is already on the list. Most people opt for the beach- but which one? Then again, there are beautiful mountains and tons of archaeological sites. Renting a car in Mexico is the easiest way to experience an incredibly diverse and rich area in a short amount of time.

Whether you have 5 days or 5 weeks, renting a car with Fox Rent A Car is easy and cheap. They are free, with no upfront purchase necessary. They even cover you at 8,600 other stores.

Mexico is a diverse place, and while you can take public transportation, you’re going to want the freedom of a private car to take you to spots off the beaten path. In central and northern Mexico you can check out hot springs and beautiful hikes. The Mayan Riviera, the area around Cancun, has beautiful cenotes to swim in, ancient ruins to explore, brilliant snorkeling in Central America’s largest coral reef, and adventure travel such as zip-lining through the jungle. If you’re looking for more adventure, hit the road and head down south to Chiapas. You can explore rugged mountainous areas around San Cristobal de las Casas or the jungles around Palenque. Some of the best spots are sleepy little towns that aren’t on the major tourist trail, and the only way you are going to get there is by following your nose on the open road.

Renting a car in Mexico is easier than most foreigners think. Major roads are smooth, well-lit, and very safe. There is even a free, I repeat, free, roadside assistance service in Mexico. The Green Angels will help you out and get you back on the road, all for free. All along the federal highway are delightful stops which are much harder to access without your own vehicle. Whether you want to experience local culture or stay at luxurious hotels that are becoming increasingly affordable as the dollar continues to gain strength.
