For the past two years, the McNay Museum in San Antonio has been hosting South Texas artists. But this year, with the reopening of the renovated Tobin Exhibition Galleries, the “Pop-Up Exhibition” initiative is more enticing.
A new exhibition, “6 Texas Artists, 8 Summer Days and 1 Cool Museum,” opens Saturday, June 17 and runs through Sunday, June 25. On Sunday, June 18 from 2 to 4 pm, the museum will host a public reception.
Originally called Michilimackinac Island, there were at least fifty-five spellings to twist newcomers’ tongues around the lyrical name. To make life easier, Michilimackinac was shortened to Mackinac and later, when the British arrived to stake a claim to the fur trade, they began spelling it "Mackinaw" which was in accord with its pronunciation.

Somehow, somewhere, at sometime, my husband, Bob, heard about the Spam Museum in Austin, Minnesota. He came by this knowledge so long ago that he no longer remembers the exact source. He believes it was a 60 Minutes story, but I can find no evidence that Steve Kroft, Morley Safer, Lesley Stahl or Scott Pelley investigated this quirky tourist attraction.
It's a visual extravaganza of the history of flight, and the US Air Force. It's worth days of your time. It's the National Air Force Museum, located in Dayton, Ohio. It's the world's largest and oldest aviation museum - and it is an extremely powerful experience.

Staying safe and not losing any of your possessions is probably the most important thing for travelers. Some countries, inevitably, are safer or more dangerous to visit than others. Central America may not be as safe as travelling to somewhere like Norway, for example. However, every country has risks, and you need to protect yourself in unfamiliar environments. The best way for me is to use a fanny pack, which lets me keep all my valuables in one safe place that the pickpockets can’t get to.
