I took 5 years of Latin in high school. It wasn't enough for me - I couldn't learn enough about Rome, Italy, languages, and food (well, you know me). So, I am drawn to all things Rome - past, present, and future. From Romulus and Remus to Gelato, I am all in.

A blog, by its very nature, buries stories. Every time I write a new post about traveling alone, others get pushed further from view. With 455 posts now on Solo Traveler, it is likely that there are many that you have not seen. With this in mind, Trip Base launched a #MY7Links challenge. The goal is to pull forward 7 posts that hold particular relevance but may have received little attention of late.

Phiona Mutesi is currently a member of the 9-person, Ugandan female chess team, the Mulago Queens.   Here, she is just part of the team, even though she is the youngest and had the most remarkable journey to playing chess competitively at the International level.  Chess is a sport dominated by white males, yet Phiona is a poor, under-educated black girl from the slums of Uganda and has successfully competed in International tournaments.
