You know how talent often runs in families? This month's artist feature, with painter Lawrence Dyer, is part of that tradition. I first met his daughter, Madeline Dyer, when I discovered her beautiful and powerfully written first book, Untamed (read our author interview here). Imagine my NOT surprise when I saw her father's artwork in one of her facebook posts.

Chicago artist Adam Siegel is nationally recognized for the breadth of his work as an abstract painter and photographer. Known for his large-scale works, Siegel presents a soulful refinement to the contemporary category. Influenced deeply by his time in Japan, the artist merges two distinct sensibilities—East and West—with compositions that showcase an elusive and elegant balance of both.

I spent time just letting Jillian’s paintings speak to me before I ever read any of her words.

I see the warmth of human beings, animals, and plants, evolving in a rough nature, made of thick layers of elements. I wonder about the mist which is lying over what I can perceive in the background of her paintings, and about the snow. These paintings speak for themselves.

Nestled just off Stratford’s main square is an artist’s cottage. It is a muted yellow with deep chocolate accents; a white portico with columns entices you in off the street. Enter through the small English cottage garden, past a sign that shows that, indeed, this is an artist’s cottage.

I was introduced to Leslie Watts, the amazing figurative painter, by the owner of Wandering Educators and am I glad I was! When I went to her website, I was filled with delight. Her work is humorous, whimsical, and highly detailed. It is wonderful - and I think you will say the same thing.

Are you a dreamer, ready to lift off? If you are, I imagine you will immediately feel Keli-Ann's paintings and be taken away by them.

If you are not a dreamer, more the type with both feet on the ground, I think her paintings will uncover an emotion in you like the one you felt when you were a child looking at a wonderful new picture book.

Lisa Hsia is unlike the studio artists we have shared in the recent past. Actually, Lisa has no studio at all! She is a traveler and her art has to be portable. She takes her work with her out into the world, documenting in words and illustrations what she observes.

Now if you think Lisa limits her work to the Oakland, California (US) area where she currently lives, you are quite mistaken. Lisa truly does travel and a few years ago she found herself in a variety of cities around the world. She has graciously agreed to share her work with you.

Do you like modern still life paintings?  Do you just love good art?  Either way, we have a real treat for you this month. Judy Prisoc is such an artist who lives and works in Gig Harbor, Washington.

Her food paintings will make you absolutely hungry for more.  Her still life work is positioned so the focus of her work is clear, leaving you no doubt as to what inspires her for each particular painting. She has a beautiful, painterly way with oils which will leave you starved for more.

Decay is a huge part of her life. It isn’t something we often talk about, but Fiona Long has been exploring decay from an art perspective for years and finds there is still so much more to know. You would not think a nice English girl would be so enamored with something like decay, but Fiona isn’t your typical English girl.
