#StudyAbroadBecause It Broadens The Horizon

Thormodur Simonarson (1978) was born on a farm in Snaefellsnes, rural Iceland. His parents gave up farming soon after and built a guesthouse. At age 22 he ventured abroad and began to explore Europe on his own. For the next eight years he traveled to various places, both in and out of Iceland. Among his various jobs, he was a speed boner (title on the hiring contract) in the Falkland Islands as well as a crew member on a shrimping trawler in Arctic winter storms north of Iceland.

My family could probably afford to stop and smell the roses and see the beauty of the journey, but some journeys should remain the road less traveled.

Over morning coffee, David says, “My parents have a gift for us: two hens, their best ones!”

The three of them anxiously watch my response.

“Now you can have fresh eggs every day!” Maria happily says.

It is so funny how over time we grow and our minds tend to change. However, there are some passions that never leave our heads, those reoccurring dreams that we want so much to be a reality.

When I walked into view - and saw the square - the centre of Marrakesh - I knew at once how much I was going to love it. I walked further in and listened to the crowd cheering the dancing snakes. They hissed and glared and slithered along, showing off their beautiful scaly tales. They showed off their shining fangs, which reminded me of pure white snow.
