Dig up the past with the National Trust for Scotland

 

The National Trust for Scotland is taking part in Scottish Archaeology Month throughout September with a range of activities to help you uncover Scotland’s history. The conservation charity owns some of Scotland’s most fascinating historic and natural sites and this month you are invited to come and unearth their intriguing past.

 

23 September- Bannockburn battlefield walk

Discover one of Scotland’s most important battle sites with a tour of Bannockburn, near Stirling. This seven-mile walk of the battlefield is a fascinating and informative tour over easy country paths and suburban roads. The event is free and takes place between 13.00 and 16.00. 26 September- St Abb’s Archaeology Open Day

Take in some natural history at the St Abb’s open day. Come and explore the archaeology of the stunning nature reserve on the Berwickshire coast. Visitors can have a go at surveying and recording or enjoy a historic guided walk. Sessions are free and take place between 10.00 and 16.00, leaving from the visitor centre. 1- 30 September - Culzean Archaeology Trail

Why not come and discover history for yourself with a self-guided archaeology trail at Culzean Castle and Country Park in Ayrshire. Throughout September a series of archaeological sites will be marked around the park and a leaflet with a map of all the sites will be available at the visitor centre. Normal admission fees to the castle and park will apply. For more information call 0844 4932149.
