One of our favorite sites for learning about Europe - what to do, see, eat, play - is Spotted by Locals. Now, Spotted by Locals has an inexpensive new iPhone app - with an Android and Windows7 version in the works! We are excited to share this great travel information with our readers - and so we caught up with Bart van Poll, creator of Spotted By Locals, and got the scoop.

WE: Please tell us about your new iPhone app...

BVP: It's the world's first series of mobile travel guides with up-to-date tips by handpicked local writers in (currently 41) cities in Europe. We're very excited to have finally launched this app after Spotted by Locals was started 4 years ago!

WE: What inspired you to create this app?

BVP: Our users our mostly travelers visiting a city, or locals who want to find . Nowadays, almost everybody brings their mobile device with them while exploring the city. Our tips are made to be consumed on mobile devices!

WE: Are there updates available for the app?

BVP: Yes, that's another unique Spotted by Locals feature! Practically all traditional travel guides and most websites contain outdated information. As we work with locals who visit their favorite spots frequently, all tips are kept up-to-date and up-to-season.

Of course any time an update appears on the website, the mobile app user gets updated. Every week there are multiple updates for almost all cities.

WE: What cities are available?

BVP: Currently there are 41 cities in Europe available: Amsterdam, Antwerp, Athens, Barcelona, Belgrade, Berlin, Brussels, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Geneva, Ghent, Glasgow, Hamburg, Helsinki, Istanbul, Krakow, Lisbon, Ljubljana, London, Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Prague, Riga, Rome, Rotterdam, Sofia, Stockholm, Tallin, Vienna, Vilnius, Warsaw, Zagreb and Zurich

WE: What if you don't have wifi while you're traveling?

BVP: Good question! Almost all travel apps currently available are "online apps", where the user needs to be connected to the internet to download tips or maps. That can be very costly, as data roaming abroad is very expensive.

That's why Spotted by Locals' apps are 100% offline - all maps and tips are included in the app. When you're walking around the city, there is no need to download any data.

To download updates of the app, of course you do have to be online. There's usually a way to connect to the internet in a hotel, or cafe to get the latest tips on your device.

WE:  Is there anything else you'd like to share with us?

BVP: In April, we'll also launch an Android and Windows 7 version of the app!
