Milk Blessings, Gobi Desert, Mongolia

Holy Milk
Gobi Desert, Mongolia

A Mongolian woman circles an oovo pouring milk on the pile of 'sacred' rocks.  Mongolians will usually walk around the oovo three times in a clockwise direction.  Traditional oovo ceremonies are offerings to the gods with a pyramid-shaped pile of rocks, wood, and other material.  Since milk is a key resource in the Gobi Desert, it was fitting that she was using the precious liquid!
