Last year I lived in North Carolina for 18 months, and one of my favorites places to visit was Wilson. The friendly people are very united as a community and are very respectful.

The city of Wilson has a rich history, beautiful parks and natural spaces, a vibrant community, and offers countless places to visit and enjoy. Despite being a small town, it offers a wide variety of options for spending time with family and friends. It's known for its cuisine, especially pork barbecue, and for events and festivals throughout the year. In fact, Wilson offers many options for fun, including culture, history, outdoors activities, and sports.

History of Wilson

Another thing I like about Wilson is its history. While there are a lot of fun things you can do in Wilson, there is also a history that is very prevalent in the culture of the town. The city of Wilson began with a community that formed around the Toisnot Primitive Baptist Church, built in the early 19th century. The town has a rich history deeply linked to railroads, agriculture, and, in particular, tobacco farming; Wilson became known as The World’s Greatest Tobacco Market for its production and trade of the crop.

Today, Wilson is also recognized for its commitment to technology, with the development of its own high-speed broadband network, Greenlight, which has served as a national model.

Where to eat

One of my favorite restaurants was CookOut; despite being cheap, it’s very delicious. When I first moved here, some friends recommended Fiesta Cancun Mexican Restaurant, and the food is definitely very good. As of my favorites, I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to go. In Wilson, there are many restaurants that you can enjoy and eat with your family.

What to do

Cultural activities

Wilson offers a variety of unique experiences, such as Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park and its wind sculptures. Other unique options include exploring the Wilson Rose Garden or visiting the North Carolina Baseball Museum

Two museums, the Imagination Station Science and History Museum and the Freeman Round House, offer a unique perspective on Wilson's history and culture. If you're interested in a specific aspect of local history, the museums offer things such as African American heritage, science education, or local art.

Sports

Wilson also offers a variety of sports and recreational activities, including baseball, soccer, pickleball, and disc golf at the J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex. Fishing, boating, and other outdoor sports are also available at Buckhorn Reservoir and Wilson Lake. Additionally, the Wilson City Little League Baseball and the Wilson Miracle League offer youth baseball opportunities.

Outdoor activities

The lakes and the tall green trees are also the first attractions of Wilson. Fishing is a local way of enjoying the good weather, in both summer or winter. You can enjoy a wide range of activities at Wilson Lake, which offers areas for hiking, fishing, exploring, and taking photos, as well as a Frisbee golf course and a boat ramp.
