One of our travel guides partners, Not For Tourists, has several unique
offerings on their website this week. Check out the following
highlights from their Seattle correspondents...

The Huskiest Deli in Town, by Ingrid Mattson

Husky Deli

Even if you're not a person who eats, this place is worth a trip just to try and make sense of it all. First, there's the branding. What does a German-style Leavenworthish look and feel have to do with the University of Washington Huskies? Second, is there really that big a demand in West Seattle for countless kinds of jam and jelly, barbecue sauce, pastas, and food I can't identify because the packaging is entirely in another language?

Bier Blitzkrieg, Gesundheit!, by Karen Watson

Die Bierstube

As authentic as Die Bierstube is, don't expect big busted ladies with blonde braids to be serving your beer. This is still Seattle, so instead of the St. Pauli Girl, this German-style bar is staffed by your typical tattooed, Converse-wearing, urban hipsters. Big, warm pretzels and Spaten Optimator are what call me to the Bierstube.

Full Disclosure, by Jessica Baxter

Pizza Pi Vegan Pizzeria

I have been a vegetarian for 16 years. In that time I have never gone vegan for one reason: Cheese. There's just no suitable substitute. There are acceptable soy versions of milk and rice versions of ice cream. But that orange nacho sludge at 7-11 seems more real than any vegan cheese I've ever had, even realer... than cheese itself.

Total Stumble of the Heart, by Ingrid Mattson

Stumbling Goat Bistro

God they're so nice here. I don't like to drop a ton of money when I go out to eat, but when I do, the food and hospitality better be unbelievable Stumbling Goat gets both of these things right. The menu has that local-grown, lovingly harvested, gourmet feel (think balsamic vinaigrette or homemade vanilla bean ice cream), but it's unpretentious and feels like you're eating at grandma's farmhouse. If your grandma had impeccable food and wine sense.

O, Those Crazy Birds, by Ingrid Mattson

Skylark Cafe & Club

I always thought that a place that tried to be too many different things would really suck, but Skylark actually seems to have gotten it right: a huge variety of free live music, good food (including brunch), comedy, BYOV (Bring Your Own Vinyl), open mic, karaoke, and all ages nights. How do the hell do they do it?! Here's my guess. First, the variety is on a schedule. You can check the website ahead of time so you don't accidentally show up for "comedy" when what you really wanted was the latest in alt-country. Second--this is hugely important--there is no cover charge!
