We've discovered an extraordinary way to learn more about the world. Iconic Guides is an excellent resource for travelers to learn about the Ancient World. Currently, Iconic Guides offers a plethora of audio guides to Egypt, Japan, and Greece. With so many fascinating options to choose from, it was hard to pick! (check back in two weeks for a review of the Acropolis Iconic Guide). Naturally, all three of these places are on our to-visit list, and I am happy to have found Iconic Guides! When you dig into Iconic Guides, you will be elated at the depth of knowledge that is now available at your fingertip (and ears).

However, led by our daughter's great interest in Ancient Egypt, how could we start off with anything but the Great Pyramid of Khufu, Giza?

Written by Egyptologist Dr. Benedict Davies, the series is professionally voiced by London-based Della Phillips. The audio guides are clear, easy to understand, and easy to listen to. Our 8-year old budding Egyptologist was enthralled with this audio guide to the Great Pyramid of Khufu. It is evident that Dr. Davies not only has a great deal of interest and experience in the subject, but the passion of all good educators to share it with others.

Sections in this audio guide include:

1. Introduction to the Great Pyramid of Khufu, The Horizon of Khufu
2. The Grand Gallery
3. The Burial Chamber
4. The Funerary Complex
5. The Subsidiary Pyramids & Cemeteries
6. The Royal Barque of Khufu

There's also a PDF map that accompanies each audio guide, which is easily printed to take along while you listen.

PDF guide to Great Pyramid of Khufu, Iconic Guides

This in-depth guide was an excellent introduction to the Great Pyramid of Khufu. Dr. Davies has many other Egyptian audio guides, and I think it would be the perfect travel companion to a trip to Egypt. The guide was well-researched, and very interesting. It's time to ditch the guidebooks (and possibly the hired guide) and head off on your own, to learn at your own pace and interest.  We learned about culture, art, religion, rituals, geography, geology, architecture, history, and more. It is facinating and makes me want to not only learn more, but take these audio guides along when we head to Egypt!
