The weekend of May 14-16, 2010 the Elkhorn Inn & Theatre in Landgraff, WV will host a “West Virginia Wine-Tasting Weekend”, pairing a selection of six different wines from around the state with two dinners prepared by Chef Dan Clark. “We aim to prove- once and for all - that our state not only has great wines, but that we have the fine food to accompany them!” said Elisse Clark, partner in the historic “Coal Heritage Trail” inn with her husband, Dan. West Virginia boasts a number of vineyards, and while some are well-known, the Inn’s tasting dinners will enable guests to try some of the lesser-known ones, as well. “We know and love the fine wines from Jones Cabin Run Vineyards, and Kirkwood’s fruit and ginseng wines,” said Chef Dan Clark, “but there are other, smaller wineries that deserve exposure, too. And WV produces some very interesting wines, such as Kirkwood’s ramp wine- yes, wine made from West Virginia’s native garlic-onion!- which is excellent for marinating meat, especially venison.” Guests with suggestions for WV wines they would like to be considered for the dinners may post them on the Elkhorn Inn’s Facebook “fan” page or “tweet” them to Elisse on twitter: @elkhorninn

Written up as “the best legal train-watching location in the USA”, the Elkhorn Inn is on the famed “Pocahontas” line of the NS Railroad, and train-lovers and photographers flock to the inn from around the country, as well as overseas. For the Inn’s many "railfan" guests- and “foodies”- the Elkhorn Inn is hosting a "Dueling Dining-Car Chefs" Weekend, May 28-30 (Memorial Day Weekend) with Chef Dan & James Porterfield, the railroad historian and author of "Dining by Rail" & "From the Dining Car", and "On the Menu" columnist for Railfan & Railroad Magazine. Mr. Porterfield will be preparing a special “Dining Car Dinner” at the Elkhorn Inn on Friday evening, with courses prepared from Mr. Porterfield’s extensive archive of recipes from famed and historic dining cars across the country, and Chef Dan will be doing so on Saturday!
