Lakeside Shakespeare Theatre Presents King Lear & As You Like It

The Chicago-based theatre ensemble LAKESIDE SHAKESPEARE THEATRE returns to Benzie County, Michigan, for its seventh season with King Lear and As You like It.

King Lear will be performed July 28th & 31st, August 3rd & 5th.   As You Like It will be performed July 29th & 30th, August 4th & 6th. Performances will begin at 7 PM. Admission and parking are free, with a $10 suggestion donation, and additional goodwill donations will be accepted after each performance. 

LST will be moving across the bay to Tank Hill in Frankfort, 178 Park Ave, just off M-22.  The new space will include a larger stage, more technical abilities and a more intimate theatrical experience.  It will also be accessible to those with disabilities.  Audience members are encouraged to bring picnic dinners, blankets, low beach chairs and appropriate outdoor wear.  The ensemble will perform in all weather.

 

Lakeside Shakespeare Theatre (LST) is pleased to announce its 2010 education series! We will be holding a series of workshops for youth and adults. We will have two youth workshops taking place from Monday August 2 to Wednesday, August 4 from 10:00-12:00 AM for ages 6-10 and 11-14. These workshops, hosted by company members, will take place at our performance venue, 188 Park Ave, Frankfort, MI. The workshops will culminate in two performances before As You Like It on August 4. Our adult workshop will take place at The Bookstore on August 2, 330 Main Street, from 6-8 PM. This workshop will explore Shakespeare’s Language from both the written and spoken perspectives. LST was founded in 2003 (as the Lakeside Shakespeare Project) by Artistic Director Elizabeth Laidlaw.  Laidlaw is a Chicago-based professional actress, producer and theatre instructor with extensive ties to the Benzie County area.  LST has been created with the intention of establishing an annual summer theatre festival in Benzie County.  Past seasons have featured Henry V, Love’s Labour’s Lost,The Taming of the Shrew, All’s Well That Ends Well, Henry IV, The Merry Wives of Windsor, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Twelfth Night, or What You Will, and The Tragedy of Julius Cæsar.

 

LST is a non-for-profit organization funded by The Seabury Foundation, The Allen Heath Foundation, The Robert and Patricia Colby Foundation and by the generosity of individual donors. 

Directing King Lear will be Jessi Hill, a veteran of Chicago and New York Theatre.  Helming As you Like it, Jeff Christian has appeared as an actor or director for five of the six previous seasons, appearing most recently as Captain Fluellen in Henry V, and directing Love’s Labour’s Lost
