How did you get interested in photography?

I have been interested in photography as far back as I can remember. Growing up, I've always had cameras of some type, but they were never anything more than simple point-and-shoot cameras (Polaroid Instamatic, 110, etc.)...but my interest has been there for a long time now :)

How long have you been a photographer?

While I have been shooting since my childhood, I did not take it seriously until I bought my first digital SLR in 2005. It was at that time I made a conscious decision to dedicate myself to the craft.

What is your favorite place to photograph? Or subject?

Honestly, I am not the kind of person who can choose any one favourite anything, be it food, music, movies, etc. That being said, I do not have any one single favourite place (or subject) to photograph. There are countless thousands of photos I have taken that I enjoy for their own unique reasons.

Any photography tips you want to share?

One major point I always bring up when I am teaching is that "gear" is ultimately unimportant when it comes to making a compelling image. Your creative vision is far more important than your equipment. Some of my best-known photos were taken (and processed) with my mobile phone...not my "go-to" camera, but it works. Your camera is just a tool to externalize what's in your mind.

Is there anything else you'd like to share with us?

In addition to photography, I am also a professional Flamenco guitarist/composer. I am currently working on my upcoming CD project (tentatively titled "The Virru Project"), which is a collaborative effort between myself and over a dozen of my all-time musical heroes from around the planet. You can hear a demo-reel of some excerpts from the project here: https://soundcloud.com/ibarramusic/virru-project-sample-reel

I hope to complete it later this year.
