The Cliffs of Moher, Co Clare, Ireland
One of the very first things we did, upon arriving in Ireland was to head to the Cliffs of Moher. Less than two hours from Shannon Airport, we rested for a bit at one of our favorite B&Bs, Dubhlinn House, for a few hours. Not quite so jet-lagged, we made our way down Doolin's tiny, winding roads to the wharf. Once on the wharf, there are several ferry companies. We booked through Garrihy's Doolin2Aran Ferries. There is parking behind the Doolin2Aran Ferry office.

We waited a short time for the ferry on the jetty, then boarded with many other customers. I'd suggest getting there early, so that you can snag a seat up top if you so desire. We were almost the last ones on the ferry, and made our way down the stairs to the enclosed area of the ferry. Once we got out of the harbor, we stood out back, and had excellent views.
And the weather? We were lucky enough to have some sunshine in spots. It also rained in spots, and the waves were rolling high. The ferry cruised toward the Cliffs - they were spectacular. We got close enough to see where the puffins (in season) roost, and saw a plethora of wheeling gulls. We poked around the various abutments, and then turned around at a small cave.
Heading back, the sun shone on the green, green land past the Cliffs. As we made our way back to the harbor, we just *knew* that our stay in Ireland was off to a great start...the magical beauty of Ireland had unfiltrated our very beings.

When I first looked at the pictures I was looking for the White Cliffs of Dover, but of course, wrong country. Thank you for sharing the pictures because when I travel and change time zones I suffer from horrible jet lag. Absolutely beautiful!

This stark, beautiful scenery is so quintessentially Ireland!
