Galapagos Travel Tips

Charles Darwin made the Galapagos famous with his famous works on evolution. Today, we look at this region of South America a bit differently. We see it as a fragile ecosystem that needs protection. This is why the UNESCO group labeled it as a World Heritage Site and why so many eco-friendly tour companies pay a visit to the comfortable and beautiful waters that surround the islands.

If you are hoping to pay a visit to the area, be sure that you are with a luxury group that guarantees a wildlife experience. Why? If you book with a company that gives you all of the facts, but none of the fun, you are going to miss out tremendously. Just consider that a visit to the Galapagos can easily translate to swimming with penguins and sea lions, basking on white sands with seals, watching the remarkably unique Blue Footed Booby as it makes its way deftly among rocks, or approaching a massive Giant Tortoise for a quick snapshot. You might even be fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the Marine Iguana as he or she makes a rare dip into the ocean.

Naturally there is a tremendous appeal to an entirely scholarly cruise that takes you to the relevant locations and lets you learn as much as possible about the impressive histories attached to the entire region, but what about the living creatures? A good tour is going to give you a combination of experiences. For example, you should be able to enjoy sunbathing in the gorgeous year-round warmth, but you also have to be able to kayak or swim in the same waters as the sea lions or the tortoises too.

Fortunately, more travellers than ever have come to recognize the value of these encounters and are seeking out luxury cruise companies that can ensure them of ample opportunities for excursions of many different kinds. The trick is to be sure that you get the gear you need to enjoy the land excursions too. Can you get snorkelling gear? Are there wetsuits and diving gear on board? Will there be staff to accompany you during your wildlife experiences?

Be sure that you also have chances for land tours to the most interesting islands and beaches, as well. It is easy to miss some of the most attractive spots simply because you are unaware of their proximity to the ship. A good provider will let you know where to go to see all of the unique creatures who inhabit these famous islands - and be respectful of the fragile ecosystem that is the Galapagos Islands.
