DK Eyewitness Travel Paris 2015: The Only Paris Guidebook You'll Need
People love Paris. It's a fact. I don't know what it is about Paris that is so attractive, but Paris has, of course, a certain je ne sais quoi.
If you are headed to Paris this year, we've got plenty of resources (see below), but today I'm recommending a new Paris guidebook from one of my favorite publishers, DK Eyewitness Guides.
DK Eyewitness Guides are the perfect travel companions for intelligent travelers. Well-known for their inspiring photos and content, they are my first research stop for any location. They are also great for armchair travelers, planners, and anyone looking to learn a bit more about a place. They are filled with maps, drawings, cutaways of tourist attractions, thousands of photos, and excellent advice.
Others think so, too. When I posted a photo about this book on facebook this morning, I got a few great comments:
Greg Hubbs, of Transitions Abroad, remarked, "Eyewitness guides are great in that they are not only well designed with pretty pictures, but are actually very informative. If we take guides, this is one of them for most locations."
Hannah Miller, of EdventureGirl, noted," How's that for travel guidebook eyecandy."
Kim Rodeffer Funk, a global artist, said, "Well, I love Paris! It has great nooks and crannies!"
And that was just in the first few minutes. But I digress.
Here are a few reasons why I love DK Eyewitness Travel's new 2015 Paris guide:
Inspiration
From sections on great days in Paris to the large section on restaurants, cafes, and bars, I am inspired to explore new areas of Paris. Why? They are presented in a friendly, accessible way, which makes me want to get out and see it for myself. The detailed maps make sure I will find what I'm looking for - and more.
Let's not even MENTION the photos. See?
Education
I'm always wanting to learn about a place before I go. The History of Paris section of this book is extraordinary, but the detailed information located in every section of the book is what grabs me and keeps me reading (and extending my travel plans for Paris to perhaps a year, or longer...). This is an intelligent guide to an intelligent city. Dig deep, and you'll be rewarded.
Insider Knowledge
Here's what I love about several travel resources (including CN Traveler and DK) - they provide a yearly calendar of weather, rainfall, and events. Use this to plan accordingly, to see (or avoid) large events, rain, or snow.
There is also a plethora of things off the tourist track that are the essence of Paris in this book, from walks around each area that show interesting things to tips on booking theatre tickets, transportation options, and prices (the where to stay chapter is invaluable).
I can go on and on about the book, but really, you should see for yourself. Highly recommended.
