Building a Tiny House

What is My Passion?

Passion: The object of an intense desire, ardent affection, or enthusiasm.

Passion is something almost everybody experiences at least once in their life. A passionate love (or hate) for somebody is the most common. Other common, yet somehow they go unnoticed, passions are passion projects. These projects are usually something that the owner holds near and dear to their hearts. Passion projects are simply a stress reliever for most, born out of interest and pure……passion for the subject.

My passion project is building a tiny house. What is a tiny house, you may ask? A tiny house is literally a house (usually on a trailer) that is built exactly like a regular house, with plumbing, electricity, appliances, but in a more manageable form. For example, my house is 16 ft. by 8 ft., and 128 square feet, not including the loft. I like to think of tiny houses as paintings.  Like a painting, tiny houses have distinct features. They have a kitchen, bathroom, living room, bedroom, and entrance hall, but unlike regular homes where the rooms are all separate, my rooms are blending together, shifting into one another.

I have been working on this project for a little under a year and a half. I started the actual building mid-January. The first time my dad and I worked on the house was to build the base; in February my dad passed away in a car accident. I picked up the pace afterwards because I wanted to finish it for him. At times, I don’t want to continue. However, I continue, and will continue until this project is done.   I hope to be done by January. A full year after I started.

When I look at my project now, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride. Knowing I not only made it with my own hands, I also made a community of people who came together and helped me. I get the same feeling when I take pictures with and of it. I look at it and say, “I built that.”
Just like my dad, I am looking to the future, and thinking about what’s next. I truly am a daddy’s girl.

Framing a tiny house

After a long days work, the last thing we needed was a photographic evidence of us being sweaty and worn out, but now here we are. Looking at the evidence.

Tiny House

Can we just take a moment to look in awe at the beauty my house is?
