In high school, while most American students are gaining more responsibility with each year, halfway around the world, Chinese teenagers become slaves to their schoolwork. In college, while most Americans are exploring the possibilities of their futures by dabbling in a variety of classes, many of their Chinese counterparts are studying for a degree they didn’t choose.

Ohio is nicknamed “The Mother of Presidents” because eight of 44 presidents were from Ohio. They are William Henry Harrison, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James A. Garfield, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, William Howard Taft, and Warren B. Harding. Of those eight, four of them were from Greater Cincinnati. 

Teaching, in any sense of the profession, is not all apples and chocolate. It’s hard work. It doesn’t matter what subject or age you teach, or which country you teach in, it’s inevitable that your job will have negatives to go along with the positives.

Here’s a list of some techniques for all you ski racers.

1.    Training 

Drums, throbbing through the crowded streets. Their beat whips the crowd into a frenzy. Women and children laugh and shriek, waving their hands in the air. Pieces of hard candy wrapped in red and gold papers fly through the sky to land in the streets. Rice rains down on the heads of the revelers, thrown by the hands of the holy participants in the festival.

We need to really consider how our culture, how our society, has conspired to sell teens short and how our actions (albeit well meaning) are handing too many young people the short end of the stick.
