One of the truisms in education, all around the world, is that educators will have students of differing abilities in their classroom. And it is often the most efficient use of a teacher’s time to teach to the lowest common denominator in order to reach everyone. I was an oft-neglected high-ability learner, bored with school, yet eager to learn as much as I could. Self-directed learning wasn’t really discussed, critical thinking skills came along in college (oh, what I could have done with learning that years earlier!), and I often wished I could learn more, more, more each day.

In the span of just a few months in 2013, I discovered a new food and gained appreciation for a local food I’d been taking for granted.

Taking a deep breath, I feel the warm onshore breeze gently whisking through my hair. For a second, I almost forget I’m not alone. I am shaken back to reality by the joyful laughter. Who knew people from different corners of the world could have so much in common, yet be so different all at the same time?

Some travelers are beach people, wanting the sand-and-water experience under palm trees. Others are city travelers, preferring the excitement and diversity of entertainment that a metropolitan vacation offers.

Maybe the last dance of Miss Aurora this season... Beautiful and clear sky, and colours of sunset and auroras, at Roksøyfjord, Sortland in Vesterålen, Norway. The last pictures of aurora last year was exactly at the same date of this year.

One of my favorite restaurants in Grand Rapids is part of the Gilmore Collection, called the Blue Water Grill. It’s in a lovely setting, on Versluis Lake on North Beltline.
