2012 was a year to remember in Britain. A summer of Olympics action had the entire country on the edge of our seats. All you needed to join in the excitement was a Union Jack and a TV remote. This summer you may have go a little further than your living room sofa but if it’s thrills you’re after then getting a cheap flight with Jet2 to Spain may be all you need.

Benicassim 2013

Summer music festivals are now a British obsession. What’s better than pitching up a tent, cracking open a cold drink and enjoying the latest bands with your mates until the early hours. But, when the heavens open and wind picks up things can go as flat as the over-priced beer. This summer why not sample the festival spirit in a warmer climate? Forget constantly checking Met Office weather updates or scouring the sky for pesky rain clouds. Head to Benicassium Festival 2013!

This four day music festival in the Spanish coastal town of Benicassium is quickly becoming the go-to event for music fans in the know. Nestled on the east coast between Valencia and Barcelona, Benicassium 2013 takes place on the weekend of July 18-21.

Basically it’s Glastonbury without the mud. Headlining this year are The Killers, Arctic Monkeys and Queens of the Stone Age with a host of other performers including Kaiser Chiefs, Azealia Banks and Dizzee Rascal.

Tickets for the event start at £150 for the standard 4-day entrance but for £325 you can go all out and party in style with VIP entrance.

As good weather is guaranteed most people travel light with a simple pop-up tent. The beach is a stones thrown from the site so Benicassium offers a festival and a holiday rolled up into one!

Las Fallas festival

For festival fun of a different kind try Las Fallas in Valencia. Held in March this traditional Spanish festival revolves around the construction and burning of the Fallas sculptures but offers a whole host of exciting events to keep you entertained.

A particularly vibrant (and noisy) festival you can be wowed by the many fireworks displays, processions, parades, marching bands.

Did you know paella was invented in the region? No, well you can sample the taste of Spain as proud locals compete in Paella contests on most street corners. Have a sweet tooth? You’ll love the buñuelos! Little misshapen donuts served in a melted chocolate drink.
