Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, straddling the California-Nevada border. The lake, which is the largest alpine body of water in the U.S., was formed about two million years ago, and is known for the clarity of its waters and the panorama of surrounding mountains.
