Rimas’ Lab

by Lukas Bruihler / Oct 05, 2012 / 1 comments

I see Rimas coming and hurry towards him. Rimas is an interesting man, and I am glad to see that he has come to meet us. Yesterday while we were having dinner at his house in Lithuania, he invited us to come and have a look around his prosectorium (lab where he dissects bodies) in the Vilnius University. He had served us delicious soup that tasted sweet but a little tangy, and the taste is still lingering in my mouth even now, the next morning.

You should go live in Brazil, or Thoughts on Film

When you think of career paths that benefit from international experience, one that you usually won’t think of is the janitorial business. That’s because it doesn’t, really. But another career path you usually won’t think of is film.

Travelling around the world can be so adventurous. Getting to experience new cultures, lifestyles, and foods can allow your perception on a country to change. Taking a trip abroad can certainly have an impact on your life afterwards - for instance seeing the world differently or being more grateful for what you have. In the case of my teacher Miss Knight, she never thought that her travel experience to Eastern Europe would lead her to become the future Mrs. Croft.

Late September and early October are ideal months to visit Madrid.  But leave the world famous Prado Museum for later.  Instead, journey to picturesque hinterlands to wine and dine among the vines.

It is grape harvest time in Spain, a time when vineyards outside Madrid become a wine lover’s destination.  Unlike the iconic Rioja wine region in northern Spain, these vineyards are a “diamond in the rough” on Madrid’s outskirts.

Much like how traveling with your family can be troublesome, vacationing with them can be just as bad.

Postcard from Redwood National Park

I lie on the ground as the tree towers above me.  It stretches up forever and ever, joined by its brethren around it.  Far above me the limbs of the giant stretch out, lifting their green foliage up to the sun.  A few rays of light peer through the green cover, golden shafts penetrating to the ground.  The musty smell of the damp earth slips under my nose.

My Summer: Highlights of Family Travel in Europe

by Lukas Bruihler / Sep 05, 2012 / 0 comments

This summer I did a lot of things, all of which I cannot tell you, because it would be too much. I will include as many highlights as possible, and will tell you a little about each of them.

First, a few days after school ended for us, we went to the part of Tara Canyon in Montenegro. Tara Canyon is the second deepest canyon in the world, only 500 meters shallower than the Grand Canyon. We spent two days there, the first one we went rafting, and the second day we went hiking to the highest point in the canyon.
