My Summer: Highlights of Family Travel in Europe

by Lukas Bruihler / Sep 05, 2012 / 0 comments

This summer I did a lot of things, all of which I cannot tell you, because it would be too much. I will include as many highlights as possible, and will tell you a little about each of them.

First, a few days after school ended for us, we went to the part of Tara Canyon in Montenegro. Tara Canyon is the second deepest canyon in the world, only 500 meters shallower than the Grand Canyon. We spent two days there, the first one we went rafting, and the second day we went hiking to the highest point in the canyon.

Take the High Road During Travels

by Heddi Cundle / Sep 01, 2012 / 0 comments

It’s always easy to take a road trip or book a flight to a destination - but maybe consider now mixing and matching your travels. I’ve done this many times, and it’s brilliant.

Sitting on a plane or in a car can be really boring sometimes. If I got $1 for every time I’ve perched myself on a seat for 12 hours on a long haul flight or flattened my rear cemented into a car seat, I’d be able to buy a lifetime’s supply of chocolate with the proceeds. I kid you not.

Summer in Tokyo

by jiawenp / Aug 20, 2012 / 0 comments

I remember tripping over myself in my dash through the automatic doors that separated Narita airport and the outside world for that first breath of Japanese air – of the late spring/early summer cool that I had romanticized for the last 6 years. Strangely, it was the first time that, when landing in a foreign country, I didn’t feel like I was out of place, but rather, surreal – like an explorer who finally steps off the shaking waves onto the home he had been dreaming of.

Welcome to … Cape Cod!

by Kathryn Blanco / Aug 11, 2012 / 0 comments

A wonderful, welcoming place, Cape Cod is an exciting and refreshing vacation destination that anyone would enjoy. For one thing, hundreds of outdoor adventures are available, including biking long trails through shady forest, past marshes and cranberry bogs; parasailing, soaring hundreds, or even over a thousand, feet in the air over the sparkling sea;  and speeding through the crashing surf on a jet ski, getting splashed with the sea spray.

Better buckle up your pets in New Jersey

If your summer family travel plans include driving through the state of New Jersey, be sure to have your pets buckled up.

In the New Oxford American Dictionary “passion” is defined as an intense and barely controllable emotion. I’m not sure that’s what I’d call my project. I’m going to redefine this project as an “exuberance endeavor.”

Wonderfully Weird Pillboxes

The homeless man that had the brilliant idea of turning the pillbox into a public urinal clearly has a good taste in vistas, but horrible locating skills. I mean, who hikes up a steep slippery slope, and along a rough ridge, to pee? The world is a strange place...

One of Florida's most famous attractions is the Everglades National Park. The Everglades National Park is nearly 2400 square miles and is a fun place to explore. Be prepared though - it is a giant swamp which can mean a lot of mosquitos and hot humid weather.

Royal Palms Visitor Center is one of three visitor centers and is a good place to start. It has a helpful little museum with a movie. Kids can also get their Junior Ranger activities here.

Today I am writing up on my favorite island in Stockholm's archipelago as of yet, the island of Utö. Last year, I felt that I wanted to go a bit further out on the archipelago and not only an hour away, so my friends and I decided to take a three and a half hour ferry ride to the island of Utö! I was smitten the second I stepped off of the boat, I had an instantaneous feeling of happiness and excitement for the day ahead of me.

So last year Sweden's National Day (June 6) fell on a Monday making it a long holiday weekend the first weekend in June. This combined with perfect sunny weather pretty much sealed the deal to be out in the archipelago once again. I was invited out to my friend's boyfriend's summer house out on the island of Muskö. Muskö is located on the southern part of the archipelago and is home to about 900 permanent residents year round.
