Have you seen Kinky Boots yet? Maybe not - it's only been on Broadway for 5 years, and it's already a global sensation. This musical, which has a rich history, started out as a BBC documentary based on a real story. A long and winding road led to a movie, and then this Broadway smash musical. It's an important story of history, family, friends, and finding and staying true to yourself. Kinky Boots is on tour - get your tickets, as this is a show worth seeing.

The show is extremely energetic, and fun to watch. We laughed, cheered, and groaned throughout. The energy in the whole theatre changed instantly, as soon as the curtains rose. A quiet audience at Miller Auditorium at Western Michigan University changed into a enthusiastic crowd, singing, clapping, and rooting for Lola.

Let's talk characters. One of the main characters, Lola, was played by the extraordinary actor Jos N. Banks. His flawless performance shone a light on living and being true to yourself, no matter the cost. Once you find your path, stick to it - it makes a difference. This is one actor to keep your eyes on - his talent and hard work will lead him far.

The cast was fantastic, including Sydney Patrick, who has the most mobile face we've ever seen - she humorously brought her character, Lauren, to life. 

The actors who played the Angels were a particular highlight, as they stunned everyone with their amazing good looks, their beautiful wardrobe, and stellar dancing skills (and in heels!). The set truly showed place and time - taking you to a shoe factory, London, or Milan; the choreography was incredible and fluid; the costuming was perfectly fitted for the stage - every sparkle could be seen from every angle - and the colors and designs were marvelous. Lastly, the music was outstanding - the lyrics truly meant something.

One of the most important things about Kinky Boots, besides the shoes, are the lessons throughout. Teaching understanding, friendship, and acceptance, this is one musical we can recommend for everyone.
