The Web's Original Travel Blog: Travelpod

I am so happy to share a great site with you today - Travelpod! We first discovered Travelpod at TBEX '09 - they were one of the sponsors. We met Louise Brown, Community Manager at Travelpod. Louise was a great deal of fun and also shared our site with their readers.  Travelpod is an excellent travel resource, and is the web's oldest travel blog! You can create your own travel blog there, and read thousands of others and explore the world.  We were lucky enough to sit down and talk with Louise about Travelpod - here's what she had to say...

WE: Please tell us about your site, Travelpod.com...

LB: It's the web's oldest travel blogging platform. Travelers from all over the world use our site to share pictures and stories

WE:  What was the genesis of your site?

LB: TravelPod is "the web's original travel blog". Before the world blog was even invented, our fearless leader, Luc Levesque was writing his travel stories and putting them on his own personal website. He emailed his friends and family whenever he updated his site. Luc's friends wanted to do this too, for lack of a better term, he built a site so other people could create their own "travel pods". Soon, his friends were telling their friends about their travels through our site and 12 years later, we're still here and growing strong!

WE:  How can travelers get the most out of travelpod.com?

LB: It depends on what you want to find.

If you are looking for information for a future trip, you can search the site and find real stories from people that have actually been there. No matter how obscure your destination is, at least one of our members has probably been there.

If you want to share your adventures, it's also really easy to start a blog and add entries, photos, videos and MP3s to it. When you're done, you can import your contacts from your email account and send notifications to your friends every time you create a new entry.

You can even sync your travel blog up with your Twitter and Facebook accounts, so everytime you publish, all your tweeps and FB friends will get a notification too.

Oh and I almost forgot! There's this little Facebook game we created called Traveler IQ... I don't know if you've heard of it or not.

WE:  What can readers find, in your forums?

LB: Our forums are filled with questions and discussion on travel-related topics. It's a really great place to meet other travel fanatics and share frustrations, dreams, challenges and achievements.

It's also a fantastic place to get quick answers to specific questions. We have great group of "Local Experts", people that are passionate about their hometowns that are dedicated to helping out travelers in their hometown. By the way, we're now accepting applications for new Local Experts. We're especially keen to get some new experts from South America and Africa.

WE:  Is there anything else you'd like to share with us?

LB:  TravelPod is pretty awesome as it is right now, but keep watching our space, exciting things are coming!

We always want to hear what you think of our site and what kinds of features you would like to see on a travel blog website. Get in contact with me if you've got any ideas on how we can improve your blogging experience.

WE: Thanks so much, Louise! Congratulations on such a great site!
