Rosie Carbo's picture

What comes to mind when you think of visiting Switzerland?  Is it Julie Andrews whirling around singing atop of a spectacular mountain peak?  Although it’s hard not to associate the country with the movie, maybe you think instead of cheese or chocolate.

Five of the Best Destinations in Europe

Asako Maruoka's picture
Europe has so many places to visit, with such diverse cultures, that it can be difficult to choose a destination. According to the Mastercard 2017 Global Destination Cities Index, the two most popular European cities to visit in 2017 were London and Paris, ranking at numbers two and three respectively. It's easy to see why, with famous landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and the Eifel Tower being available to see.

Bathed in bright yellow that soaks in the summer sun, while offering a stark contrast to the snow come winter, Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria, always seems both welcoming and royal. Built in 1740-50s, the palace became the summer residence of the ruling family of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Franz Joseph, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, was born here on August 18, 1830, and died here November 21, 1916. He was the last Austro-Hungarian emperor.

Alicante and the Costa Blanca are popular destinations in Spain amongst sun seekers from all over the world.

The Costa Blanca is known for its beautiful beaches, wonderful climate, and tourist resorts like Benidorm, Altea, Calpe, Gandia, and Javea to the north of the province, and Santa Pola or Torrevieja to the south.

It’s a pity, because the inland areas of the province offer attractive places and some real hidden gems to be discovered.

Paris is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world - and for good reason. The city seems to have a personality all its own, full of charm, quirks, and subtle beauty - it is unlike anywhere else in the world. For those who have visited la Ville des Lumieres in the past, the incomparable experience that comes from the city’s personality does not need to be explained. But if this is your first trip to Paris, you may need some help in understanding how to best take in all that the city has to offer.
